Tony Awards

Tony Awards, as we all know are conducted under the supervision of the two theatre promoting organizations The Broadway League and American Theatre Wing. The ceremony is conducted annually in New York City, USA.

The purpose of Tony Awards is to honor the celebrities from different show biz categories for their outstanding talent and performance. The concept was laid down in the annum ‘47 by the co founder of American Theatre Wing, Antoinette Perry. She was also a producer, a fine actress and a director of various television serials and movies. The awards are so much popular in the show biz industry that they have been given the status equivalent to Oscar. However, Oscar covers international artist categories unlike Tony Awards which pay tribute to artists that fall in twenty six categories. Special awards such as Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre and Special Tony Award are also given to the celebrities.

This year, Tony Awards ceremony was the sixty fourth one since its commencement. The event was the classiest, most cheerful and bounciest one. All the celebrities were dressed in designer outfits, shoes and accessories. They gave short interviews on the red carpet which were much admired by the fans. The award ceremony, unlike the previous one had the least of the dull jokes and live performance patches. It will be remembered by the audience for having the least number of embarrassing moments, which are now seen in every other award ceremony. The New York City was glittering on the day of the big event.
