The JNU (abbreviation for Jawaharlal Nehru University) has been around for slightly over four decades now ever since the Parliament of India made it incumbent upon the state to establish the academia; anointing it in honor of India’s First Ever Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The late Prime Minister’s daughter Mrs. Indira Gandhi headed the inauguration ceremony and appointed G Parthasarathy to serve as the academia’ 1st VC i.e. Vice Chancellor.
At first, the institution was established for two primary purposes – both aimed with keeping the third world faction of the world in view; the 1st was to uplift the level of higher education that was being imparted and offered to scholars from third world nations and the 2nd was to conduct research specifically aimed at third world nations.
So far the JNU (abbreviation for Jawaharlal Nehru University) has been successful in keeping its mission and objectives alive and healthy. The institution has gone on to liaison with various other renowned academia from different parts of the world; the Turkey based Ankara University being one, followed by the United States of America based George Washington University and also NASA.
