Tony Awards 2010

The ‘Tony awards 2010′ took place at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday. Sean Hayes hosted the awards ceremony. The nominations for the Tony awards were announced in May. The ‘revival of La Cage aux Folles’ and the musical ‘Fella’ were at top with 11 nominations each. The “revival of Fences” received ten nominations at Tony awards 2010. Fella received the awards for ‘best Choreography’, ‘Best sound design of a musical’ and ‘best costume design of a musical’. ‘La Cage aux Folles’ received the awards for ‘best revival of a musical’. Douglas Hodge was awarded ‘best performance by leading actor in a musical’ and Terry Johnson received the award for ‘Best direction of a musical’. Fences received the award for ‘best revival of a play’. Denzel Washington got the award for ‘best performance by leading actor in a play (Fences)’. The award of Best play went to ‘Red’. Edie Redmayne received the award for ‘best performance by a featured

actor in a play’ (Red). Christopher Oram received the award for ‘Best scenic design of a play (Red)’. Neil Austin got the award for ‘best lighting design of a play (Red)’. Adam Cork received the award for ‘best sound design for a play (Red). Michael Grandage was awarded ‘best director of a play (Red)’.

Memphis won the award for best musical at Tony awards 2010. Joe Dipietro was awarded ‘best book of a musical award’ for Memphis. David Bryan received the award for the ‘best original score written for the theatre (Memphis)’ and Daryl Waters got the award for best orchestration (Memphis)’.
