Recent Earthquakes

The recent earthquakes in two states of America are the center of attention of the media throughout the world. All forms of media, whether electronic, cyber or print, are full of the details about these natural phenomenon. In short, the recent earthquakes have shocked everyone inside and outside of the United States. According to the sources of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the recent earthquakes have struck the states of San Diego and California on the night of Monday, the 14th day of June 2010 with magnitudes of 5.9 and 5.7 respectively. The news of these tremors has terrorized the people, particularly the residents of these states. However, there was no reported damage due to these eartherquakes.

According to the USGS’s information, the initial tremors in these states were followed by some aftershocks having low intensity. The epicenter of the earthquake that his southern areas of California, was found in

Ocotillo situated on the border of the Mexico. The magnitude of this earthquake was recorded as 5.7 on the scale. On the other hand, the magnitude of the San Diego was a bit higher (i.e. 5.9) than that of California. After these high magnitude earthquakes, people felt aftershocks as well. But fortunately, the earthquakes have not caused any reported damage to life and property. However, the baseball match being played between Blue Jays of Toronto and Padres of San Diego was halted and the supporters were advised to keep their nerves.

The occurrence of earthquake is a natural thing but most of the times it proves very fatal. There are numerous instances in history when earthquakes have destroyed cities and towns. In the recent times, these natural calamities have brought dreadful consequences for the people of Chile and Haiti.
