Jake Harris

Shakey Jake Harris popularly known as Jake Harris was born on the 12th of April in the year 1921 was a songwriter, harmonicist and singer of Chicago, USA. Jake Harris brought five collections of songs to public within twenty-five years with the cooperation of Magic Sam, his nephew. Harris’s homeland was Earle in Arkansas but he moved to Chicago in the state of Illinois when he was 7 years old. He performed a number of times in Chicago Blues in the 1940 decade. He had been a gambler by profession, with the nickname ‘Shake’em’, and a mechanic. His first audition went on air in 1959. His song,’ Call Me If You Need Me’ or ‘Roll Your Money Maker’ went on air by Artistic Records. Magic Sam and Syl Johnson also performed in it while Willie Dixon was the producer. Harris performed with musicians of jazz, Jack McDuff and Bill Jennings in the song collection Good Times in the year 1960. In the year 1962, Harris became a part of the American Folk Blues Festival. In the 1960 decade, His nephew and he himself used to perform regularly in

gigs in Chicago together and Harris’s guidance of young musicians supported them to release the first cassette of the singer Luther Allison. In the 1960s, Harris performed with Luther Allison in the city of Los Angeles in Further on up the Road. Another harmonicist, William Clarke also performed with Harris. Afterwards, Jake Harris also performed for the band World Pacific. He had a record label and was running a nightspot of his own but he had to go back to Arkansas because of his severe illness. This really upset and disappointed his listeners when they got the news of his death in the March of the year 1990. He could not live longer than 68 years.
