Flag Day

The Flag Day celebrations in the United States are held on 14th June every year. These celebrations are held in order to commemorate the espousal of the flag of United States which took place on 14th June 1777 through resolution of Second Continental Congress. In the year 1916, Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States issued an order that 14th June was declared as the official Flag Day of the United States. In the August of 1949, the National Flag Day was confirmed through an act of the Congress.

On the Flag Day, there is no official holiday. However, on 14th June, 1937, Pennsylvania was the first state of the United States which declared 14th June as the official holiday. It was started in the town of Rennerdale. It is the discretion of the president to declare the official observance of the day. The longest parade of the day is held every year in

Quincy, Massachusetts, which was started in the year 1952. On the other hand the largest parade of the day is held each year in Troy, New York which has its basis on the parade of Quincy and the number of spectators is more than 50000. If we probe about the oldest parade of the day, we come to know it is held in Fairfield WA. This parade started in the year 1909 and the Fairfield has been holding the parade each year since then and the only exception which has come to our notice was that of the year 1918. The parade of the year 2010 is also going to be held along with many other celebrations. Many NGOs and people have played an important role in the holding the celebrations of the Flag Day.
