Touchdown Jesus

I bet you all know what Touchdown Jesus is. In case, your memory is ditching you then let me help invigorating it a bit. Well, Touchdown Jesus is a statue which is placed in the Solid Rock Church near the Interstate 75, which runs all the way to Cincinnati via Dayton to Toledo. The Solid Rock Church has more than four thousand members and regarded as one of the oldest and premium churches of the state of Ohio.

There are many nick names for the statue such as Giant Jesus, Big Butter Jesus, Drowning Jesus and Big J. The statue is placed on the side of the church pool in which Jesus is shown drowning, with only the part above chest visible. He is raising his hands and praying to God to save him. According to some beliefs, Jesus is raising hands to get pulled up by the angels of heaven. The statue is sixty two meters tall. It was designed by Brad Coriel and sculpted in the annum ‘04 by the two artists

Mark Mitten and James Lynch. The Touchdown Jesus is assembled on a frame made of metal and Styrofoam and coated by a layer of fiber glass. The cost incurred in constructing the statue was US$500,000.

On the mid night of the fourteenth day of June in the annum ‘10, a scourging lighting struck the statue and within seconds, it was surrounded by blazing flames. The police was called but before the officials and fire brigade could arrive, the statue was swollen by fire and only the metal frame remained.
