Tony Awards 2010 Winners

The Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Theatre (Tony Awards) held last night with “Memphis” and “Red” steals the show. Catherine Zeta-Jones earned the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical and she really deserved it as she performed brilliantly in “A Little Night Music.” Denzel Washington was the winner of the Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for his effort in “Fences.” Michael Grandage gets the award for Best Direction of a Play for “Red” while Eddie Redmayne earned the award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play for “Red.” Bill T. Jones won the award in the category of Best Choreography for “Fela!” while the award for Best Play also goes to “Red.” Terry Johnson was the winner of Best Direction of Musical award for “La Cage aux Folles” while Best Revival of a Play went to “Fences.” Scarlett Johansson earned the award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play for “A View from the Bridge” while Katie Finneran won the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical award for “Promises, Promises.”

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play: Viola Davis (Fences)
Best Book of a Musical: “Memphis”

Best Sound Design of a Musical: Robert Kaplowitz (Fela!)
Best Scenic Design of a Musical: Christine Jones (American Idiot)
Best Lighting Design of a Musical: Kevin Adams (American Idiot)

Best Revival of a Musical: “La Cage aux Folles”
